I have been cooking up a storm for social events lately! A lot of experimentation led me to discover some new techniques along the way. I worked with vanilla beans for the first time ever by baking Vanilla Bean Cupcakes with Vanilla Bean Buttercream for a work shower. Isn’t “Vanilla Bean Buttercream” so fun to say? Even more fun to eat! Later, I made donuts, also for the first time – Heart-Shaped Cake Donuts to be exact – for a bake sale. Let’s dive in first with the real stunner ingredient here: the peachy-keen vanilla bean… Continue reading
The completist in me has been aching to do a sweeping run-down of books I have read within the past year or so that were either before I started this blog or that did not warrant an entire article to themselves. In this post I will blast through a wide variety of titles, so look out folks, we’re coming in hot – “Hold on to your butts!” Continue reading
Throughout my life, I have had this image of the type of person I wanted to be one day. I am happily working toward those goals, but a significant aspect of that image relates to being diverse in my hobbies and interests. They always fall short of my definition of perfection, so I never seem to bake the same one twice (intentionally anyway).
In his house at R’lyeh dead Cthulhu waits dreaming.
After seeing references to Cthulhu in gaming and sci-fi pop culture for ages, I thought I would finally give H.P. Lovecraft’s influential works a try. I am not usually one for “horror,” but I am trying to branch out with my literary genres, so here we go! Continue reading
It’s a really, really good book. Continue reading
