Alternate title: Proof that I can follow through on a project! Yaaaayyy. . . . Continue reading
It’s no secret that many of the figurines you find secondhand are pretty hideous. Oftentimes an awful paint job is to blame. With that in mind, a simple coat of paint can transform even the most offensive of tchotchkes into a modern accent piece. Painting these dated figurines a single color allows you to focus on the shape alone, which can be quite neat. Continue reading
“Don’t take a picture of it – it’s too small! It’s cold and you made it days ago!”
This is how the conversation went back-and-forth between my husband and I regarding this last, solitary sliver of cake. Of course, he just wanted to hurry up and eat it, but the thing is, I didn’t know I would want to blog about it when I made it. In fact, I imagined that it would very likely be a flop, or at best, unequivocally “meh.”
Boy, was I surprised.
Armed with $40 for two days, I attended two church fundraiser sales and two subdivision sales. I thought I would share my haul since I personally LOVE seeing what other people find. Sorry to wax Shakespearean, but this cake has me feeling poetic. Let me state for the record that I hate coffee-flavored desserts and that, despite identifying as a slight coffee snob, the same goes for cold coffees. Tiramisu, frappucinos, coffee ice cream – all a big “nope” in my book.
Apparently though, the use of coffee in chocolate desserts can enhance the flavor of the chocolate, without imparting much of a coffee taste.
Not the best idea for a dieter who has currently “plateaued.” These lovelies are for a bake sale though, so it’s for a good cause (#pedestal). Also, it’s Valentine’s Day.
I have a bucket of “excuses to bake” tucked away under my desk here. Continue reading
I hope you are still going strong with your New Year’s resolutions as we approach the end of January. I hesitate to call mine “New Year’s” resolutions per se since they mostly just happened to coincide with the beginning of the year, but there are just so many things I want to accomplish in the coming months! New DiY projects, a lengthy reading list, personal wellness goals, and – as always – a never-ending “life” to-do list. On to the fun parts though! Continue reading
It is good to be back! I have been unable to write for a while, but I’m happy to say I have turned a new page in life and that things are looking up. What better time than Christmas and New Year’s for rebirth and new beginnings too?
But enough with the sentiments eh? Let’s have a snack . . . .
